2023 Ox Hardy Wines Blewitt Springs Shiraz

This is Shiraz that proves you can have plenty of power without all the heaviness. Rich blackberry and dark plum fruit lead the way, with a little spice and savoury character underneath, while a lovely freshness keeps everything balanced and stops it feeling too big. There's real depth and quality here, but it's still the kind of wine you want to pour another glass of, and that's exactly why it made the cut.

What to eat with it?

A beautifully grilled steak would be hard to beat, especially with a bit of char on the outside. Roast lamb, slow-cooked beef or a rich mushroom dish will also work a treat.

Drink now or later?

Both, but this is one that will reward a little patience. There's plenty of fruit and flavour to enjoy now, although the structure suggests it'll develop beautifully over the next 5–8 years. If you're opening it now, give it a good hour in a decanter to let everything open up.
