2024 Whistling Eagle Sangiovese
This is the kind of red that makes you wonder why we don't drink more Australian Sangiovese. Juicy dark cherry and red fruit meet a savoury, slightly earthy edge, with a smooth, dry finish that gives it plenty of character without ever getting too heavy. It's seriously good drinking and even better with food, which made this one an easy choice to make the cut.
What to eat with it?
Sangiovese and Italian food are best mates for a reason. Think pizza, tomato-based pasta, lasagne or anything involving slow-cooked meat and a healthy amount of parmesan.
Drink now or later?
It's drinking beautifully now, but there's enough going on here to comfortably give it another three to five years. Our call? Don't overthink it so open one now and let dinner do the rest.
