2022 The Pawn Sangiovese
A couple of years in the bottle has done this Sangiovese some serious favours. There's plenty of cherry and red fruit, but it's the savoury, earthy side and touch of spice that make it really interesting, with the firm tannins it had when it was younger now softened right out. It's drinking beautifully, has plenty of character and absolutely comes alive with food, which is exactly why it made the cut.
What to eat with it?
Sangiovese and Italian food is a pretty hard combination to beat. Pizza, tomato-based pasta, lasagne or anything involving slow-cooked meat will be brilliant. Get some parmesan involved and you're laughing.
Drink now or later?
Now is a cracking time to get into it. Those youthful tannins have settled down and everything is coming together beautifully, but there's enough going on that another 2–4 years shouldn't worry it either.
