2022 Juxtaposed Old Vine Grenache

Every now and then a wine comes along that catches you completely off guard, and this was one of them. The aromas were unlike any McLaren Vale Grenache we'd come across, unexpected at first but quickly becoming absolutely captivating. There's all that beautiful cherry fruit and spice you want from great Grenache, but with extra depth, structure and a savoury edge that gives it some serious personality. And the finish? It just keeps going. This is a wine that rewards a little attention, and that's exactly why it made the cut.

What to eat with it?

Slow-roasted lamb shoulder would be an absolute winner here, especially with rosemary, garlic and crispy potatoes. Duck, mushroom risotto or a rich tomato-based pasta would also work beautifully with the wine's savoury character.

Drink now or later?

Both, but give it some air if you're opening it now. We'd recommend decanting it for at least an hour to let those unusual aromas settle and all that beautiful fruit come forward. There's enough structure and depth here to suggest it'll continue developing nicely over the next 5–8 years.
